Record 23-10
The Cyclones surprisingly won the Big 12 conference tournament and got their ticket for the tournament. The whole season has been about Monte Morris, who had a hard time transitioning from floor general to first option on offense. Most of the Cyclones losses came because he struggled against teams focusing on him on defense, but Iowa State is still a great offensive team with six players shooting over 37% from behind the arc. The game at the Allen Fieldhouse is worth mentioning, since they put an end to a Kansas home winning streak that started in 2014.
Key Players
Monte Morris went from being a floor general to a reliable scorer. His assists numbers went down, but he improved the efficiency of his reads and reduced the number of turnovers to 1 per game. His first options on passes are Matt Thomas and Naz Mitrou-Long (60%+ TS% for both of them). The three of them will be crucial in the upcoming tournament.
Prediction
There is a pretty good chance the Cyclones will pull an upset. They might have struggled early on but they built some momentum, and it had to carry over in the first round they will be dangerous.
