West Virginia Mountaineers #4

Autore: Raffaele Fante
Data: 14 Mar, 2017

Record 26-8

One of the most renowned teams in college basketball and the poster team for full court press: first in the nation in steals and in opponents turnovers. The pressure they put on opponents to even pass the half court is preposterous, their defense is well organized and incredibly effective. Coach Bob Huggins has 10 players averaging at least 10 minutes and an offensive production going from Sagaba Konte 4.5 PPG to Jevon Carter 13 PPG. No stars, all for the system and the system for all. One of the worst opponents any team can get and the only team to beat Kansas once and have a 14-point lead with 3 minutes left, before a huge comeback from the Jayhawks avoided the sweep. The Mountaineers reached once again the conference final and lost.

Key Players

Nathan Adrian is the forward standing in front of any player inbounding the ball, even after scoring on the most unlikely circus shot. PG Jevon Carter sets the pace and has the ball in his hands most of the time. Sophomore Esa Ahmad might be the only player with some kind of future in professional basketball because of his combination of height (6-6) and touch.

Prediction

WVU might lose in the first round or reach the Sweet 16. If their opponent can match well against the full court press, they might be the victim of an upset.
