The day basketballncaa.com was born

The basketballncaa.com project was born in the early months of 2013 as ncaabasket.net, a hybryd creature that was neither blog nor information website but had something of both. It started with a specific goal: to dive into US college basketball. Our passion and commitment, and certainly luck, made sure the website grew to reach a bigger audience. With the 2016 Tournament we resolved to make our contents available in English.

The approach is the same: we don’t take ourselves too seriously and we truly believe that writing about college basketball is a privilege and an honour. The NCAA is unique. Nothing really compares to it. There’s no other league where playbooks and coaches are this important. These athletes, all of them, future NBA champions included, are just students who give everything they have every second they are on the court. The fans will give everything they have every single game.

And of course, the Big Dance. The end of the journey through all the states of America, starting again every year, with hundreds of new players and stories. Nothing even resembles the tournament bracket in the world of team sports. For one month, America sits and enjoys the plays of young players and future talents. They went through it, (almost) all of them. Kareem Abdul Jabbar, back when his name was Lew Alcindor, turned UCLA into a powerhouse. Magic Johnson and his Michigan State clashed with the unknowns of Indiana State, led by Larry Bird. Some were kings, like Michael Jordan at North Carolina, others were not, like Stephen Curry at Davidson, but they made people dream.

The 2016-17 season marks the turning point of the project. New website, new layout, new domain, new writers. The one who started everything, back in those early months of 2013, Manuel Follis, is still at very center of it all. His role changed and made room for the experience and expertise of journalists, friends, and fans who worked daily on the website. Others were part of the family in the past or will be in the future. We have the supervision of Luca Vivaldi, the webmaster and technical architect of the project from the very start. He thinks we are all incompetent (as far as technology goes), but he gets us out of trouble more often than not.

basketballncaa.com is love for the game, humour and sporting culture. We are the ones getting excited when we see a great pass or a key defensive play or 35,000 Syracuse fans gathered inside a sold out gym, dressed in orange and refusing to sit until the home team has scored its first basket. If you want to know more about the world of American universities while getting to know future champions in the NBA or in your domestic league, this is the place for you.

We do sincerely hope you will enjoy NCAA basketball.
